What Does it Take to be a Dynamic Futurist?
By Bridget K. Hogan
While it seems as though the tech companies are making huge strides in the way they make their devices work together, they are really playing catch-up. From Apple finally adding the ability to use two apps side-by-side (which Android has had for some time), to the idea of smartphones featuring laptop/desktop integration…a new buzz is starting!
However this “buzz” is actually old news. The founder of Idealfuture, Jeff Batio, (known to the computing world as a dynamic futurist and creator of the Flip-Pad Voyager and the Dragonfly Futurefön), has invented and been ‘predicting’ and incorporating these very same ideas (and better ones) into his technological innovations and inventions since the early 2000’s.
Batio jumped far ahead of the competition when he introduced the Voyager to the world, more than just merely running two smaller apps side-by-side on the same screen, he ran two or more programs on each of the two screens, due to the Voyager’s unique dual-display architecture.
While other companies were trying to figure out how to keep their machines from overheating, Batio had already solved that problem by having enough room inside the device for all the components to spread out and having it raised on an angle allowed for more airflow. At the time other companies were using plastic enclosures, Batio has already made the Voyager out of strong and lightweight magnesium.
Beyond heat, he also solved the problem of poor ergonomics found in most mobile devices available. The screens were at the perfect eye level to help with neck and eye strain and the keyboard was spread out and had room for your hands to be in the most ergonomic position without any wrist strain.
On top of all these actualized predictions that were way ahead of their time, there is also his current product, the Dragonfly. He created the idea of the Dragonfly at the same time as the Voyager, because he knew there would be a need for a more compact device that could offer all the benefits of ultra-mobile computing. Other companies like Asus have introduced devices like the Asus trio but none compare to the overwhelmingly ahead of its time and yet very timely, Dragonfly Futurefön.
From being the only device to integrate all three most commonly used mobile devices, to the fact that you can have a multi display workstation in your pocket; the innovations never seem to end! By having all three devices together, Batio is also the first to be able to offer not only one charging cord but also just one data plan instead of many for all of your current devices.
The Dragonfly also features displays that are larger than most, known to be phablet size, or as he likes to call it a Futurefön; however Batio knew that a larger screen would be necessary long before companies like Samsung came out with the Note 3 and the Mega.
Integration across the mobile platform is just the beginning for Batio; he also has a way to fully integrate your phone, laptop, tablet, and desktop into an effective and productive multi-display super workstation. By combining the Dragonfly and the Radian, Batio’s out-of-the-box multi-display desktop station, and effortlessly connecting them, you now can quickly and easily turn the Dragonfly into your larger multi-display desktop workstation.
But before people go on thinking that the latest version of iOS, with iPhone and Mac OSX ‘Yosemite’ desktop/laptop operating system integration is something that’s never been done before, go take a page from Batio’s book. He has been highlighting this functionality from the start.
Batio also created the true mainstream example of portrait LCD usage with the Voyager. In fact, the Voyagers dual portrait design (that could also work in landscape orientation as well) was a first back in the late 1990’s! So next time you pull out your smartphone or tablet that we all take for granted, remember that a small company with a big, big idea was there first and paving the way for the tools we use daily.
It’s hard to imagine that one man could have created and predicted all of these technological advances but it is all documented. The big computer companies have only reinforced his predictions, when they say that they want to start using the advancements that Batio came up with over 10-years ago.
So at this point we can once again look to the big computer companies and say, “What took you so long?” or we can look to Jeff and say, “What’s coming next?” Large computer companies should not even bother trying to reinvent the wheel because Batio has already done it, time and time again!
